| F A Q 's (Frequently Asked Questions) |
Q. What is 100 Books
Publishing Company, and who is Dudley Harris?
A. 100 Books was started by Dudley Harris after he tried to figure
out how to go about publishing a book of his own photographs. He finally got it
right, and now he aims to share this knowledge with others. Dudley’s day-job is
practicing ophthalmology in San Antonio, Texas. He runs 100 Books Company out
of his office at home.

Q. What do I get for my $9,000?
A. You get 1,000 copies of a coffee table book that is just like those you find
in Barnes and Noble or Borders. A typical book is around 100 pages, hardback
with foil stamping on the spine, a dust jacket that is laminated with a glossy
film, four color printing with spot varnish, high quality paper in an arte matte
finish and single color end papers. The price includes shipping to your door.
Q. What, exactly, does Dudley Harris do
in the printing process?
A. Dudley is your interface with the printer in China. He will explain to you
how to provide files that the printer requires. He will make it easy for you to
climb the learning curve of getting your book printed.
Q. How can I get a guarantee of the
color reproduction?
A. Color reproduction is a very difficult subject. To be honest, there
cannot be a guarantee that your book will look exactly the way you expect.
But the four color press is computer controlled, and your printed image will
come out looking very much like the proof that Dudley will provide for you.
Dudley has not had any complaints about color reproduction from his clients.

Q. How can I find a designer for my dust jacket?
A. A well-designed dust jacket is critical to the success of your book. If you
don’t have a designer, Dudley will recommend one for you.
Q. What if my first edition sells out?
Is the second edition cheaper than the first?
A. No. The second edition is the same price. Therefore in order to take
advantage of the economics of the four color press, you should order the maximum
number of copies the for the first printing. For example, if you order 1,000
copies, the price per copy will be $9.00. But if you order 2,000 copies, the
price per copy will be $7.00. (The numbers are approximate.)
Q. Can I order fewer than 1,000 copies?
A. Yes, but the economics of the four color press demand that the price will be
$9,000 whether you order 1 copy, 500 or 1,000. So you may as well get a
thousand.
Q. How do I get an ISBN and a bar code?
A. You may do this yourself (see Self Publishing by Tom and Marilyn Ross) or
Dudley will take care of these chores for you. There is a charge of between
$200 and $300 for this service.
Q. Does 100 Books offer any help in
distributing my book?
A. No. 100 Books only gets your books to your door. Please read
Self-Publishing by Tom and Marilyn Ross.
