Warning About Color Proofing!

First of all, what’s the big deal about proofing?

The big deal is that the four color press method of printing cannot provide a sample of your final book.  It prints all the books at once.

Surprises are fun for birthdays, but we don’t like them in the printing business.

So we would like to know in advance how your images are going to look in your book.

Thus we spend a lot of time fretting over proofing.   There is a reason for fretting.

Matching color exactly from one printing press or printer to the next is impossible.

One would think that a print made on a proofing printing press with exactly the same inks as the four color book press would look the same as the final image in the book.  This is not so.  It will be close, but it won’t be exactly the same.

This fact does not preclude your getting a great looking image in your book.  Here’s why.

First, the match will be very, very close.

And second, no one who is looking at your book will have your inkjet print to hold side by side and compare.  No one but you will have even the slightest inkling that the color match is not absolutely perfect.

In conclusion, you must accept that you cannot get an absolutely perfect color match between your proof and your book.  But you can believe with reasonable assurance that your book will be truly excellent.
